Kaohsiung is one of the few exceptions in Taiwan. Xiaogang District beside the airport has places trading until one in the morning, and the metro Red Line strings together Xiaogang, Cianjhen and Yancheng, all dense with long-standing shops. For anyone on a red-eye who is riding the next day, whether that meal is hot makes a real difference. This guide covers the two places that actually work, and when. On the metro Red Line, Kaohsiung International Airport station (R4) is next to Xiaogang station, and the line runs north through Cianjhen to Yancheng. This is not a tourist food district, and the density of choice does not match Taipei or the Taichung coast. What it has that other airports do not is places still open late at night. For a cyclist arriving on an evening or red-eye flight, that matters far more than variety. Bear in mind this is a first meal on arrival, not a meal after a ride. Most people stepping off a plane have not exercised; what they need is something digestible that will not wreck their sleep, rather than heavy fat and alcohol — particularly if they are riding the next day. ## The two places that actually work Ratings and review counts are a Google Maps snapshot from 8 August 2026 and will change. Saturday peak is 90% at 18:00. * Meihe Egg Crepes (No. 101, Jinfu Rd, Xiaogang District): open 18:00–01:00, seven days a week, under NT$200 per person. Rating 4.2 from 471 reviews. About six minutes on foot from Xiaogang metro station. The batter is their own formula and there are dozens of fillings. Its value is entirely in the hours — this is one of the few hot meals available to a late arrival. Saturday peaks are 90% at 19:00 and 83% at 21:00; after midnight it is quiet. * Backup: the unnamed NT$15 scallion pancake stall on Dapeng Rd, Xiaogang. Rated 4.9 but from only 34 reviews, too small a sample to list as a primary pick, and open only 15:30–18:00. ## Choose by arrival time Landing from morning to early evening: Huaxi is open 09:30–20:30 every day and is the safest bet. To dodge the 18:00 peak, push the meal to after 19:30. Landing after 22:00: Huaxi has closed, so Meihe is the main option, trading until 01:00\. The crepes are generous but easy to digest, which suits a next-day ride better than stir-fry or barbecue. Landing after 01:00: both are shut and only convenience stores remain near the airport. For flights like these, arrange something through your accommodation in advance or bring your own — do not plan on finding food after you land. Landing at dawn: Huaxi does not open until 09:30 and Meihe has closed. The practical move is to head into the city first, or simply start the day and push the first meal to mid-morning. ## What a support vehicle does at Kaohsiung Airport A late arrival is where a support vehicle earns its place most obviously. Moving a bike box and luggage through public transport in the middle of the night is genuinely difficult — the metro has a last train, and a taxi may not physically take a bike box. The usual arrangement is to drive straight from arrivals to the meal or the accommodation, leaving bike and luggage in the vehicle, then deliver the bike to the start point the following morning. That way nobody is handling equipment at one in the morning. On the way home it reverses: load the luggage first, keep time for a last meal, and go to the terminal afterwards. Carrying a bicycle on the Kaohsiung metro is subject to specific rules, so check before you rely on it. A restaurant stop is not a standard inclusion but can be requested while planning. ## Vegetarian, halal and other dietary limits Both places are meat-led, and the later it gets the fewer alternatives there are. Vegetarian: Huaxi serves only braised pork rice, pork chop rice and miso soup, so there is no vegetarian option. Meihe has dozens of crepe fillings and some contain no meat, but check on the spot whether the same griddle is used. Kaohsiung city has plenty of vegetarian restaurants, worth arranging separately. Halal: neither holds halal certification, and braised pork rice is plainly pork. We are not going to invent an alternative. Kaohsiung does have halal-certified restaurants in the city; look them up and check their hours in advance, because at night there is effectively no choice at all. Yes. Meihe Egg Crepes on Jinfu Road in Xiaogang trades until 01:00 every day, about six minutes on foot from Xiaogang metro station. It is one of the few hot meals available near the airport at that hour. What if I land after 01:00? Only convenience stores remain near the airport.
